Step 2: Give Your Dog Daily Attention and Exercise

Dogs that spend much of their day alone in the home have got a lot of excess energy stored in them that shows itself in excessive barking. Well exercised dogs are happier indoors and are less likely to bark excessively.

Spare some time to spend with your dog. Play with him; take him out for a long walk to provide him much needed physical exercise. When you need to leave your dog alone at home make sure that you leave him with some dog chew toys.

Step 3: Train Your Dog to Be Quiet on Command

Even when your dog barks for an appropriate reason but doesn’t stop, you need to train him to stop barking on command. With young and obedient dogs, the best technique is to lightly hold the dog’s muzzle shut to stop his barking, and then give him a command for “quiet.” The word or phrase used by you does not matter as long as you use the same word every time. Praise your dog when he remains quiet after you release his muzzle. Always remember to give your dog a little praise when he behaves well!
